Makeup Tips & Tricks!

These are some things I've gleaned in my time around the web:

1. Looking for a neutral light brown eyeshadow shade? Use a bronzer! Cheap and effective.

2. Not wanting to buy eyelid primer? Don't have the $20 to shell out for Urban Decay Primer Potion or Too Faced Shadow Insurance? Make your own with 1:1 ratio of concealer and body butter. Works just as effectively and lasts just as long.

3. You don't have to use a foundation brush to apply foundation! Just use your fingers. It often gives a dewey look that may be desirable.

4. If your eyeliner is not permanent or if your pencil eyeliner tends to smear, lay it over with some powder eyeshadow in a similar shade. This will make it more permanent.

5. Not wanting to shell out lots of $$ for makeup remover? Make your own with 1:1 ratio of olive oil and witch hazel. The olive oil will get rid of your nonpolar makeup, the witch hazel the polar makeup. Cheap and effective.

6. Wash your makeup brushes in shampoo. Remember, makeup brushes are just hair, and what do you use to wash your hair? Shampoo!

7. Always keep your makeup in a dark, cool, dry place. This will extend its shelf life and make it less susceptible to having chemical reactions to sunlight.

8. Always use hand sanitizer or wash your hands before applying makeup.

9. If you get an eye infection or cyst, throw out all of your eye makeup after it clears up. You don't want to get infected again!

10. Use a moisturizing lip balm at night. Your lips will feel phenomenal the next day.

The Sunscreen Project, Part 4

Review: Pur~lisse Essential Daily Moisturizer SPF 30

 

I got this moisturizer (sunscreen, since it has SPF) from my March MyGlam bag.

The active ingredients are:
Avobenzone 2.00% / Homosalate 8.00% / Octinoxate 7.50% / Octisalate 5.00% / Oxybenzone 5.00%

When I first got this product, I was thinking, hmm, perhaps this might be nice, since it's something recommended by Michelle Phan and her crew from MyGlam.

Hmm... and perhaps it was?

When I first put on this product, I was quite surprised. This SPF did not really feel greasy at all. In fact, it felt quite nice. I put it on first thing in the morning, before I put on any makeup, and it felt after 10 min that it was not there at all. In fact, it felt like quite a nice moisturizer that was not greasy AT ALL.

I was quite pleasantly surprised.

This SPF moisturizer continued to be quite nice throughout the entire day. It was not hard to remove at all - just a quick rinse with my Clean & Clear Morning Burst face wash, and that was it!

Pros:
-Has Avobenzone, which protects against the entire spectrum of UVA rays
-Is not greasy
-Can be used under makeup
-Has SPF 30, which is pretty standard SPF

Cons:
-Price! On Dermstore.com, it costs $44 for 1.7 oz. That's super expensive.

Overall, do I like it? Yes, but the problem is that the price is too much of a problem for me to purchase the full product. Sorry, it's not on my "good" sunscreen list, or rather, my list of sunscreens that I would actually purchase.

I usually wear clear contact lenses, optometrist prescribed Acuvue Oasys with Hydraclear. I do have prescription glasses, which I wear when my eyes are really tired. My prescription hasn't changed for the last 3 years (yay my vision has finally settled!)

18. DO YOU COLOR YOUR HAIR?
No, never. I prefer keeping my hair as its natural color (dark brown).

19. TELL ME SOMETHING YOU'RE PLANNING TO DO TODAY.
Go to lab, work on homework, meet with advisor.

20. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
When I watched "Aftershock" - a Chinese film about the 1976 Tangshan Earthquake. It was so sad.

21. WHAT IS YOUR PERFECT PIZZA TOPPING?
Supreme, or just sausage.

22. DO YOU PREFER HAMBURGERS OR CHEESEBURGERS?
Neither - I don't like them. I like turkey burgers, or if neither of those are present, then veggie burgers. Or just a chicken sandwich.

Yes, during times where I had exams and papers and lab practicals lined up back-to-back, etc.

24. WHAT IS YOUR EYE COLOR?
Dark brown

25. CAN YOU TASTE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PEPSI & COKE?
Yes!! And I love coke so much better :)
